  1. Interesting. Is/was there something specific in 1987-88 1998, and 2012-13 that results in the inflection points?

  3. I think the 2012-13 inflection is basically saying "everything's going to be all right. We don't have to worry about how many people there are going to be in the future."

    It would be interesting what caused the turning point around 1989.

  4. Forgot to say - the point of putting the graph up is to show that for the last 10 years, the number of people added to the planet has been almost constant each year at about 80 mill.

    Which makes the projected sudden decline in a couple of years look optimistic.
